Creative Refresh: A Retreat for BIPOC Artists is an intimate gathering for Black, Indigenous, and people of color artists curated by Portland in Color. The retreat features a two-night stay at the Society Hotel, private BIPOC-only group soaking session in the bathhouse, all meals, and an itinerary filled with abundant opportunities for connection, reflection, 2025 visioning, and respite.

ANTHA

Antha Reynolds (she/her) is a sound healer, Reiki practitioner, and yoga teacher in Portland, OR. The work she does inspires her every day through guiding others on their self-care journey. She offers an integrative approach to self-care through weaving art and healing into holistic offerings that align with her clients and community. CELESTE

Celeste Noche (she/her) is a Filipino American editorial and documentary photographer based between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California specializing in food, travel, and portraiture. Her work is rooted in the narrative, exploring memory, displacement, and identity. Her work has been commissioned by publications like Travel + Leisure, National Geographic Traveller UK, and The New York Times. She began Portland in Color in 2017 as a photo series to celebrate the vibrant community of creatives around her and lives in a 111 year old house with her husband, toddler, and two cats.

COOKIE

Cookie (she/her) (published under Jagger Blaec) is a multifaceted creative who takes her creative cues from her intuition and intentions when creating art. Cookie’s creative medium is writing with a focus on mental health and wellness as well as current events and news. 

With a deep love for language and a fascination with the human experience, she crafts narratives to inspire others to navigate the pursuit of a fulfilling and balanced life. Inspired by a devout yoga practice Cookie is a master of manifestation ready to share the secrets of her universe. 

EMILLY

Emilly Prado (she/her) is a writer, educator, DJ, and community organizer based in Portland, Oregon with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area and Michoacán, Mexico. Her debut essay collection, Funeral for Flaca, was a winner of a 2022 Pacific Northwest Book Award, amongst other prizes. She has taught creative writing, professional development workshops for creatives, and zine-making to students of all ages. Creative Refresh is the culmination of her years-long dream to bring BIPOC together to rest and imagine, together. Learn more at her work at emillyprado.com or @emillygprado.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE RETREAT TUITION?

A two-night stay at the Society Hotel, all meals during the retreat beginning with a welcome reception on Friday and a farewell lunch on Sunday, a private soaking session with our cohort in the bathhouse, and participation in all scheduled activities such as yoga, meditation, creative goal setting and visioning, portrait sessions, and more including any necessary materials and supplies. All Society Hotel guests also get an additional free public soaking session each day of their stay.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Creative Refresh is open to adult Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) artists and creatives. All artistic disciplines and career stages are welcome!

HOW DO I APPLY?

Applications are now being accepted at the link below and close on November 1, 2024, at 11:59 PM PT. All applicants will be notified of decisions by November 18, 2024.

HOW MUCH IS TUITION?

We offer two accommodation choices and prices: King bed, shared bathroom, all meals included: $1495 OR Queen bed, shared bathroom, all meals included: $1295.

We are also offering TWO reduced rate scholarships ($1000) and ONE pay-what-you-can scholarship in our Queen accommodations.

HOW DO I GET TO THE RETREAT?

The retreat address is 210 N Cedar St, Bingen, WA 98605-9093. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to The Society Hotel but we encourage carpooling! We will request accepted attendees indicate if they are interested in carpooling with fellow attendees, and will be able to help facilitate connections closer to the retreat date.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE RETREAT?

A detailed packing list will be sent to participants closer to the retreat date.

WHAT IF I HAVE ACCESSIBILITY OR DIETARY NEEDS?

Please share this information in your application so we can make appropriate arrangements. Our goal is to make this retreat as accessible and welcoming as possible. ADA accessible lodging is also available.

What's the payment plan and cancellation policy?

If accepted, a 30% non-refundable deposit is due by November 25, 2024 to hold your spot. The remaining balance is due by December 13, 2024. Cancellations are not allowed but will be considered on a case-by-case basis in the event of extenuating circumstances. If a cancellation occurs and a spot can be filled from our waitlist, a refund for any payments made (excluding the non-refundable deposit) will be made.
